Oxycodone and Naloxone are combined together in this medicine.
This medicine is used to treat severe pain when other alternative treatment options are inadequate. Naloxone helps relieve constipation caused by Oxycodone.
Oxycodone + Naloxone may also be used to treat restless leg syndrome (unpleasant or uncomfortable sensations in the legs with an irresistible urge to move them).
Take Oxycodone + Naloxone exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a modified-release tablet. Swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.
Oxycodone + Naloxone must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it suddenly as this may worsen your condition.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- breathing problems e.g. severe asthma, airway obstruction disorder
- moderate to severe liver disease
- paralytic ileus (a condition wherein the bowel does not work properly)
- blocked bowel, or conditions which affect stomach emptying
- cor pulmonale (enlargement of the right side of the heart due to a lung disease)
- head injury, raised pressure in the head, brain or spinal cord
- convulsion, fits or seizures
- consume large amounts of alcohol, frequent drinker or alcohol withdrawal problems
as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
Do not take Oxycodone + Naloxone if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Oxycodone + Naloxone may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while taking this medicine.
Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
Do not take Oxycodone + Naloxone if you are currently taking or have taken a medicine to treat depression known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxacid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine in the last 14 days.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- heart disease
- liver disease
- kidney disease
- thyroid problems
- enlarged prostate
- Addison’s disease (disorder of the adrenal glands)
- sleep apnoea (interruptions in breathing during sleep)
- depression, anxiety
If you are going for an operation, including minor surgery and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine.
Oxycodone + Naloxone may cause drowsiness or dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Other side effects include any of the following: headache, weakness, difficulty sleeping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, dry mouth, excessive sweating, and back pain.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- slow, shallow or weak breathing
- chest pain or tightness
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- altered mood, depression, or seeing, hearing or feeling things that are not existent
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Do not take Oxycodone + Naloxone if you are currently taking or have taken a medicine to treat depression known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxacid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine in the last 14 days.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- other painkillers e.g. morphine, nalbuphine
- medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures) e.g. carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital
- medicine for stomach disorder e.g. cimetidine
- medicine for nausea or vomiting e.g. metoclopramide
- medicines to treat fungal infection e.g. ketoconazole, voriconazole
- medicines to treat TB (infection known as tuberculosis) e.g. rifampicin
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Oxycodone + Naloxone.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
